Fighting Hunger Together

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Walmart Foundation for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Did you know that more than 50 million Americans don't know when their next meal will come from? The face of hunger in America is that of our neighbors and people we see every day. Sadly, springtime usually brings a decrease in food and charitable donations to food banks across the country. Did you also know that one of the biggest causes of hunger is unemployment? In today's economy, that speaks volumes.
To help bridge the spring hunger gap, Walmart is working with Feeding American and four of the most recognizable food brands in America- ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg's- in a nationwide Fighting Hunger Initiative from April 9-30. Consumers like you and I can join the fight in stores or on Facebook.
Between those dates,  Walmart will be hosting a Facebook campaign where fans can Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart
By voting among 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by the Department of Labor. Walmart will donate $2 million to the 21 communities receiving the most votes- $1 million to the winner and $50,000 each to the 20 runner ups. The winning communities will be announced May 1st. The Fighting Hunger Initiative is expected to generate 43 million meal for families in need!
In case you're wondering, when voting opens, I will be voting for Palm Coast, FL, one of the communities eligible. Yes, it's just one on a very long list, but the reason I chose to vote for it is because each year we vacation in Florida at our family's condo and I had no idea not too far from where we have so much fun and make so many happy memories there were people in so much need.
Be sure to log onto Facebook between April 9-30 to vote and spread the word! Millions of people are going to receive help with one simple click of your mouse. Also you can help the fight while grocery shopping. By purchasing select products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg's, customers can donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger. Just by making a purchase, we all can make a difference.
Nobody in our country should go to bed at night hungry or not knowing where their next meal will come from. Join me in helping Walmart to make a difference in those who need it the most! Together we can stamp out hunger in America!
