Bar-B-Cutie For My Cutie

Don't you just hate it when a favorite restaurant closes? You love the food, you go there all the time, and one day you pull into the parking lot only to see the "For Sale" or "Closed" sign on the front door. Such was the case over a year ago, when our local Bar-B-Cutie shut its doors. I was sad, b/c well, I love good barbecue, but I don't think anyone in the city was as disappointed and upset as Alex. Oh, how he loved their barbecue beef sandwich. And the funny part? Until he had theirs, he wouldn't go near anything w/ barbecue sauce. Now, he was 3 or 4 at the time, but before that, he had some bbq sauce at his great grandma's house that was a little too spicy for his little mouth, so to him all of it must taste that way and he wanted nothing to do w/ it. But one Saturday while his daddy and him were having some quality time, he was convinced to try it one more time; and from that moment on....he was hooked. He even asked Adam to buy a bottle of their sauce at home:) So when they closed unexpectedly, he was a sad little barbecue lover. Luckily, we still had some of that bottle of sauce left, and after it was gone, we discovered Jack Daniels original bbq sauce was very close to the one he loved. When I saw this easy, quick and simply sandwich, I knew if I used that sauce, Alex would be a fan, and it might even remind him a little of those ones he enjoyed so much; and luckily, I was right. He LOVED them! For a quick and easy supper, these are a great alternative to the normal "sloppy" sandwich we all like so much. After this trauma, let's hope no other of Alex's favorite restaurants decide to close their doors! I don't know if those McDonald's hamburgers can be recreated!!

Sloppy Barbecue Sandwiches Adapted from Taste of Home
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
2 ribs celery finely chopped
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1/4 c. ketchup
2 TBS packed brown sugar
1 TBS yellow mustard
1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
3 TBS Jack Daniels Original barbecue sauce, or your favorite
Salt and Pepper to taste

In a large skillet, brown beef, onions and celery until no longer pink. Drain. Season w/ salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, combine tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire and barbecue sauce. Mix well. Pour over meat mixture. Simmer on low for 15 minutes until slightly thickened and flavors develop.

  2. Oh I hate that too, especially if its a really good place. I love homemade sloppy joes too, this recipe looks fab, I love how it has celery in it and that JD sauce is good.
